My dog is sick...

This morning's update
As of 9:00 am:

She's still not wanting to eat.
She didn't vomit overnight - her last vomit was yesterday before closing. They're going to do the barium test on her today (I think).

Best time for me to check back would be around noonish or so.
I probably won't be able to go visit her, because I've been late getting back to work the last two days, and will have to make up my missed time. Mom said she would visit with her a couple times today.

She's acting pretty much the same as she did yesterday - lethargic, droppy, but wagging her tail when people speak to her.

She may not come home again tonight.

Did the dog eat any potpourri? Our dog about died when she was a pup because she decided to take a piece under the couch and eat it. She stayed at the vets for several days with some of the same problems your dog is having.

She hasn't eaten any of that, but she IS a chronic non-food eater. They've xray'd and xray'd, and will do a barium test next.

My mom said she got up and walked around some today, went to the lobby door and wanted to leave (still attached to her IV pole). She barked at noises she didn't like, and is drinking water on her own now. She still won't eat, is vomiting, and is still not acting like her full self.

Good news!
The whole family went to visit her this afternoon.
She gave us kisses (first time all week). Seemed to be in fairly good spirits, but still very tired/weak.

She was in the midst of her barium test during this.

We went home, and got the news at about 6:30 that Miss Pickle pooped the poop of all poops, the mother poop, poopzilla, mondo poop (diarrhea type).

It would appear that she has either or found and eaten a forgotten (yet forbidden) rope toy, or has eaten a mop.
We thought we threw out all the rope toys a year ago (because she was eating them). But dachshunds are slick and will get what they want one way or the other.

5/17/07 Update

She is now vomiting up whatever those fibers are that she pooped out yesterday. She did drink for them this morning, is acting pretty decent. Eating still doesn't interest her (day 6 without food).

They saved some of the fibers for us to see if we would recognize what it was. Our mop is still there and in tact. We have no carpet or throw rugs. We have no rope toys.

The vet is out of the office until about 1:00 today. I take my lunch at 1:00 so I'll go down there then and talk to her then. Exploratory surgery may be an option if the barium test does not conclusively show where the offending fibers are residing. It would appear Miss Pickle may not be home again tonight.

Update. Pickle has a pretty rough blockage. She apparently has eaten an entire washcloth, maybe more than that (considering her habits). She will be going into surgery soon.
